The month of August is closely approaching and the weeks ahead are looking mighty fun based on the mountain of video game goodness on the horizon. Though not as packed as past months, August 2019 nonetheless sees the release of a solid lineup, a few highlights being the retro re-release of World of Warcraft Classic, prehistoric survival title Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, and Remedy’s trippy action-shooter Control.

The first half of the month brings forth a number of long-teased titles, releasing the likes of patriotic mech-shooter Metal Wolf Chaos XD, Friday the 13th: The Game on Switch, and EA’s next play ion the gridiron Madden NFL 20. We also see the introduction of a new Hearthstone expansion, a beta for Black Mesa’s long-awaited Xen levels, as well as a full release for retro-style shooter “Ion Fury” following the game’s legal dispute with Iron Maiden.

As August comes to a close, some of the most high-profile titles of the month finally make their way to launch. Blair Witch brings intense creepiness following its E3 reveal, Man of Medan begins an interactive horror anthology, and Remnant: From the Ashes unloads on a monster-filled apocalypse. In addition, Hunt: Showdown moseys on out of Early Access, Life is Strange 2 debuts its penultimate episode, and Warhammer: Vermintide 2 prepares a beastly Winds of Magic expansion.
