PlayStation 5 Release Date, Price Officially Revealed (VIDEO)

PlayStation 5 PS5 Digital Edition Dualsense

Since being announced and formally unveiled earlier this year, fans have been speculating many details regarding Sony’s next-gen console, the PlayStation 5. While information such as hardware specs, an updated controller, and the console’s appearance has been detailed on several occasions, two big tidbits have nonetheless remained a mystery: the release date and the price. Though the system’s considerable power and vague “Holiday 2020” launch window have offered hints of what to expect thus far, Sony has now officially spilled the beans and unveiled the release date and price of the PlayStation 5.

As revealed during the console’s previously-teased livestream, the PlayStation 5 and the disc-less Digital Edition has been confirmed to launch on November 12th for United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea territories. The rest of the world is set to get the new hardware on November 19th. In addition, the main console was revealed to retail for $499 USD, while the Digital Edition is set to arrive at the price of $399 USD. Check out the announcement in the video below.

The reveal of the official release date and price of the PlayStation 5 comes only shortly after competitor Microsoft revealed the same details of its own Xbox Series X as well as a lower-cost iteration of the main console. As the pairing seemed somewhat similar to Sony’s strategy to release the PS5 alongside a disc-less alternative, all eyes were surely on the PlayStation brand ahead of today’s big reveal event. However, only time will tell whether or not it was worth the wait. While the PS5 matches the Xbox Series X with its $499 price tag, the affordable all-digital variant is still notably undercut by the Xbox Series S by a whole $100.

The PlayStation 5 is confirmed for an initial release on November 12th, with a global release set for November 19th.
