DFTG Recaps The Week’s Biggest Movie/TV Trailers: March 19th (VIDEO)

DFTG Recaps

Another week or so has come and gone and in that time, quite a few new trailers have arrived to hand out some movie and TV hype. In the week of March 19th, Netflix’s Lost In Space reboot is giving serious Mass Effect vibes, young Dumbledore is on the hunt for Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, and the universe is probably doomed in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers outing. DFTG recaps the biggest TV and movie trailers of the week in the list below.

Avengers: Infinity War

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading towards its ultimate culmination in Avengers: Infinity War, and the towering stakes have not been more on display than in the superhero ensemble’s latest trailer. The Mad Titan’s Black Order makes a terrifying debut, Star-Lord and Tony Stark are trading hilarious quips, and Captain America is testing mights with a Gauntlet-wielding Thanos! While the universe is almost surely doomed, Avengers: Infinity War will still rocket into theaters on April 27th.

Christopher Robin

Disney’s live-action adaptation hype train continues with Christopher Robin, a continuation of the classic Winnie the Pooh story from the perspective of an adult Christopher Robin. This is an admittedly clever premise as the audience that initially grew up with Pooh and his pals are now seeing them through the same rose-colored glasses as the titular character played by Ewan McGregor. The teaser for the film does nothing short of deliver those expected nostalgia feels, capped by an appearance by the lovable bear himself voiced by veteran performer Jim Cummings. Christopher Robin bounces into theaters on August 3rd.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

2016’s Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them showcased the wizarding world of 1920’s New York and ultimately opened the door to a bigger story with the surprise reveal of dark wizard Grindelwald. The forthcoming tale, The Crimes of Grindelwald, follows the hunt for Johnny Depp’s titular villain led by Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and beloved Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law). The first trailer features the pair’s adventure all around Europe, promising plenty of thrilling magic to offer moviegoing audiences. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will appear in theaters on November 16th.

The Grinch

Doctor Strange may be a master of magic, but actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s turn as The Grinch may make him the master of trolling as well. The classic Dr. Seuss story gets a modern reimagining by Despicable Me studio Illumination Entertainment, and the first trailer gives us our first peek at how grumpy the mean and green one can truly be. The Grinch hits theaters on November 9th.

Legion – Season 2

With each passing week, Legion is refusing to make any sense with its marketing in the most wonderful of ways. However, FX is seemingly making an effort to clarify things with a recap of the trippy X-Men series’ first season. At least, that’s what one would assume from the new trailer’s title. Nope! While it does feature various instances of memorable scenes, none of them are presented in a coherent manner and may only further confuse viewers ahead of the show’s premiere. Never change, Legion! Season 2 of Legion premieres April 3rd on FX.

Lost in Space – Season 1

Netflix is going all-in on their upcoming reboot of the 1960s serial Lost in Space. The 10-episode run will not only keep in line with its original family-adventure feel, but also feature gorgeous big-budget visuals, likening to modern space operas such as Star Wars or the much more apparent Mass Effect. Based on the trailer, the upcoming show shares more than a few similarities with the BioWare series, none more strikingly than the show’s incarnation of The Robot, which may as well be a member of the Geth machine race. Legion, is that you? Season 1 of Lost in Space begins streaming April 13th on Netflix.

Ready Player One

The whole of pop culture comes alive in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming big screen adaptation of Ready Player One. Most of what we’ve seen has painted the screen with as many references as one can stomach, with plenty more to spare. However, the latest trailer gives much more insight into the upcoming film’s story, and puts forward the ensuing treasure hunt for ownership of the VR paradise, the OASIS. Ready Player One opens in theaters on March 29th.

Supernatural – “ScoobyNatural”

What is the one thing the show Supernatural hasn’t done yet? If your answer was “a crossover with fellow spooky mystery-solver Scooby-Doo” then you should probably switch to decaf. Then again, this is Supernatural we’re talking about, a show that once crossed over into the actual real world. Much to the glee of the fandom, “ScoobyNatural” is the real deal, and a glorious animated trailer shows off the first footage of the Winchester brothers’ unlikely adventure with Mystery Inc. “ScoobyNatural” will premiere March 29th on The CW.
