Deadpool Choose Your Own Adventure Series On The Way From Marvel

Deadpool Choose Your Own Adventure

Those familiar with Marvel’s Deadpool are often impressed with just how brazenly rebellious the character can be. Endless bullets, quips, and fourth-wall breaks comprise the mind of the “merc’ with the mouth” and now fans have the chance to become the outrageous character in a new spin on his fantastic adventures. Marvel Comics have announced a Deadpool choose your own adventure series called You Are Deadpool, allowing readers to dictate each story’s events.

Debuting in May, the interactive five-issue miniseries will see narrative change with the roll of a die; a Deadpool Die to be exact, which readers will be able to cut out from the comic book itself. Under this decision-making premise, every week will bring a new story to experience, featuring the likes of several notable Marvel guest stars along the way. Series writer Al Ewing teases the fun ahead in the story’s official description.

YOU ARE DEADPOOL is a five-part adventure gamebook in the classic tradition of Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf, and Diceman—where you (and the cut-out-and-keep Deadpool Die) control the action! Every week brings a complete single-player adventure—where you encounter glamorous guest-stars like Hulk, Ghost Rider, Grasshopper, Daredevil, and another Grasshopper—that form an epic quest the like of which you’ve never seen, unless you have!” teases series writer Al Ewing.

“And there’s more! Fight end-of-level bosses! Manage your inventory by stealing background objects! Explore five different time zones in nearly any order! Play the tutorial level! Enjoy unique minigames about bar fights, beat poetry, and sneaking through levels! Laugh! Cry! Cheat! It’s all waiting for you—because YOU ARE DEADPOOL!”

In addition to the writing talents of Ewing, You Are Deadpool will also utilize art by Salva Espin and Paco Diaz for the series’ limited run. As evidenced by the above preview pages, You Are Deadpool is looking to be unlike anything Marvel Comics has done in the past, and those familiar with the page-flipping genre of gamebooks are likely to appreciate the idea of Deadpool choose your own adventure.

For the unfamiliar, stories of this type are progressed by following on-page directions where readers are regularly prompted with deciding where the action goes. This involves turning to various sections of the book until a conclusion is reached or the main character dies. Since death is practically impossible for Deadpool, it’ll be interesting to see where You Are Deadpool goes when the first issue releases in May.

What do you think? Would you jump at the chance for a Deadpool choose your own adventure series, or are you content with Wade Wilson handling his own maximum effort?
