Temtem Canceled For PS4 And Xbox One, Still Coming To Nintendo Switch
Temtem, the upcoming monster-collecting game that’s been compared time and time again to the long-standing Pokemon franchise. Though the concept might be the same, Crema Games is making a point to execute the game in their own unique way. Initially announced for current generation platforms including its present run on PC, it looks like the studio decided to cancel its release on PS4 and Xbox One.
Following PlayStation’s State of Play, Crema made the announcement on their Kickstarter page that the team is looking forward for the future of Temtem. Rather than focusing their energy on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Temtem will instead release on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The developers publicly stated: “This hasn’t been an easy decision, we understand many of our backers supported us with the intent of playing on their current systems and we always try to put our backers first. As the next-gen approaches and as Temtem keeps growing we made the decision to fully focus our efforts on bringing the best possible game experience to players on the newest hardware. With that in mind, we are offering our backers the option to upgrade to a PS5 or Xbox Series X copy or get a refund on their copy. More on that later.”
Though it was Crema Studio’s full intention to release Temtem on all current generation consoles, they quickly discovered that they were adding on more work than they could feasibly handle. “Each additional platform we support adds a new layer of complexity when releasing new patches and content,” Crema explained. “Each platform requires specific QA testing in that platform, specific guidelines to comply, and additional review times from platform holders. That sums up to a lot of precious time lost in just managing updates instead of developing them. So deciding which platforms we support is a key decision to keep our times.”
Thankfully, there’s still good news – Temtem is still coming to the Nintendo Switch. It will also launch on next generation consoles – the PS5 and Xbox Series X. For those of whom backed the game for PS4 and Xbox One, the team lists a few options contributors can take right here. Interested in playing it now? PC players can join the early access phase via Steam right now.
