Sony Patents AI Tool Designed To Help Stuck Players

Sony

With all manner of challenging puzzles and difficult bosses in games these days, it can be frustrating for players who just can’t seem to overcome the obstacles in front of them. Perhaps they simply need a particular item or tips on defeating a certain enemy, but the uncertainty of it all is often to leave players “stuck”. It’s certainly possible to find help on the internet as well as through physical game booklets, but a new AI tool from Sony may offer an even simpler means of helping struggling players.

The reveal of this tool comes from a recent patent filed for an “In-Game Resource Surfacing Platform.” The entry describes an AI program able to identify the current state of a game and provide relevant information about in-game obstacles. Data collected by the AI is then compared against other players’ progress who have completed the task successfully. Of course, the AI won’t activate until the someone audibly asks for assistance, making the tool useful without being in the way of the player’s experience unless they need it.

This isn’t the first time an AI has been implemented in gaming or even the first one to come from Sony as of late. However, this particular patent may open the door for a bright future of possibilities in gaming. If implemented properly, it could make games more enjoyable for players who often get stuck and give them access to the resources necessary to help ease their time during play.
