Starfield Devs Confirm There Won’t be A Player Voice

Starfield

Bethesda’s Starfield will include quite a bit of customization, allowing players to express themselves as they see fit such as with the characters themselves or with options to alter the look and function of the player’s ship. One thing that players won’t have, however, is a voice, making the main character a silent protagonist.

While Bethesda has done plenty of games that feature a voice for the main character, the studio has also had its fair share of titles that feature a silent lead. As such it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the team has opted to not include a player voice in the upcoming Starfield game. Amidst the plethora of new information that has reached the eyes and ears of fans thanks to the Bethesda and Xbox showcase at this year’s Summer Games Fest, a recent Tweet has arrived confirming that players will not have a voice. The post states that the lack of a player voice is due to all the dialogue in the game being in the first person, though why that makes a difference whether the player’s character audibly speaks is unclear.

It’s an interesting choice to forgo a player voice, though it does give the player a chance to create a voice  for the character within their own minds. How that affects Starfield as a whole however remains to be seen. Starfield is aiming to release on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S sometime later next year.
