A Closer Look At Overwatch’s Cancelled Jetpack Cat Hero
Blizzard’s Overwatch boasts a wide range of colorful characters all with different abilities and backgrounds. The developers have crafted hundreds of concept characters that were never used for the game for varying reasons. In fact, we’ve previously seen the internally beloved jetpack cat hero that was mentioned earlier this year by Game Director Jeff Kaplan. While at BlizzCon, Kaplan and the Lead Concept Artist Arnold Tsang showed off some concept art from Overwatch’s earliest days. The most exciting arguably was the flying feline and various other animal heroes that didn’t make the cut.
The development team came up with two different ideas for the jetpack cat hero, one where the creature was a “puckish cartoon cat with a heroic streak” and another lazier version that uses the jetpack as a recliner of sorts. Sadly, they will never make it the world of Overwatch alongside other fellow concept characters. You can see a few of the other concept characters in the newly release art demo below:
Overwatch is available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Blizzard continues to expand their diverse cast of heroes most recently with the support medic Moira who was revealed during BlizzCon this year. What kind of character would you like to see next?
