Though the tidings of last year’s holiday season are likely still being felt these few days later, the incoming month (and year!) of January 2022 shows that games will indeed keep coming whether our wallets are prepared for them or not. While not as populated as the publisher-beloved end of the year, the weeks ahead will see a number of awaited games enter our libraries, with the biggest highlight being the latest of Sony’s debuts for PC, God of War.

Before Kratos’ latest “boy”-growling exploits, January will first introduce PlayStation users to Deep Rock Galactic, a “space dwarves with guns” FPS that will also amazingly debut free on PS Plus. Next, Switch-exclusive beast-slayer Monster Hunter Rise is also getting the crispy PC treatment along with Rainbow Six Extraction, the series’ latest entry which mixes up its usual grounded tactical approach with a sci-fi/horror-ish alien infection plot.

Closing out the month is Pokemon Legends Arceus, taking the creature-collecting RPG into a more action-oriented direction as it tasks trainers with completing the first Pokédex for a wildly untamed new location inspired by Feudal Japan. Lastly, Sony is apparently doling out double in January with the arrival of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, bringing the series’ latest two installments to PS5, with a PC version on the way later in 2022.

On the DLC side of things, January 2022 has several of note, bringing the frosty 2.4 update to Genshin Impact, the Project_Hel DLC to cyber-ninja slasher Ghostrunner, and multiple patches for notorious server scorcher Final Fantasy XIV. Xbox Game Pass also adds three day-one games to the service, letting players battle 60s-style aliens in The Anacrusis, photograph adorable doggos in Pupperazzi, and unleash chaotic frisbee combat in Windjammers 2.
