God of War TV Series For Amazon Starts Talks With Sony
The film and television industries have shown in recent years that video games are the next major frontier full of franchises to mine for adaptations. The one video game company with the most television and film irons in different fires right now is Sony, which has been seeking to adapt several of their PlayStation franchises for wider audiences. Their Uncharted film has recently found box office success, and their Last of Us and Twisted Metal television series are in the works for HBO and Peacock, respectively. Now, it appears that they are in talks with Amazon to create a live-action God of War tv series.
Deadline has reported on the talks that have begun between Sony and Amazon about a potential live-action God of War tv series. The current idea is that the series would come to Prime Video, under The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins serving as showrunners for the project. Fergus, Ostby and Judkins already have experience creating these high-budget genre series for Prime Video, so they definitely are well-equipped to lead this project well. Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Amazon Studios would all likely have creative team members involved in the development of the series as well, though no specifics on that are yet known.
It is also not yet known if the God of War tv series would focus on the initial origins of Kratos from the first God of War games which heavily focused on Greek mythology, or the newer reboot iteration of the series which features Kratos facing off against Norse mythological deities. Amazon already has a live-action adaptation of the Fallout games in the works as well for Prime Video, with Walton Goggins set to star in that project. With so many gaming adaptations being made these days, here’s hoping we get a PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale announcement soon!
