Sonic The Hedgehog Green Hill Zone LEGO Set Images Leaked (UPDATED)
UPDATE: A new announcement from LEGO has officially revealed the new Sonic The Hedgehog set to the world, confirming the leaked images were indeed real and revealing a January release date as well as a $69.99 USD price point for the upcoming release. The original story is as follows.
ORIGINAL:
LEGOs will never go out of style, especially as the company takes on different franchises or themes out in pop culture. From Star Wars to Harry Potter, and city-themed sets to the unknown of outer space, there’s plenty to choose from. With Sonic the Hedgehog seeing some renewed fame with the live-action film and its upcoming sequel, it makes sense that a company may want to cash in on the successful franchise, particularly with the arrival of new LEGO sets themed after the legendary blue hedgehog.
By the looks of a new set leak, that’s exactly what the brick-making company is aiming to do. As shown in leaked images posted on the Sonic subreddit, a look at the classic Green Hill Zone from the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog is shown in all its LEGO brick glory. While, obviously, the set doesn’t comprise the entire level, much of the setting’s mainstays are there, featuring Sonic himself, a Crabmeat Badnik, Green Hill’s iconic loop, a Motobug Badnik, as well as Dr. Robotnik in the Egg Wrecker, and more.

Attentive fans may already recognize this design from earlier this year, when the community-driven LEGO Ideas program greenlit a fan-created project inspired by Sonic Mania. The pitch version of the set was also themed after Green Hill Zone of Sonic Mania and consisted of Sonic, Dr. Robotnik, a giant Death Egg robot, some Hard-Boiled Heavies, as well as some small friendly critters with a backdrop of the Green Hill Zone. With the reveal of the new leak, the official final product does appear somewhat different but still looks like a lot of fun for fans of the blue blur.
Whether or not this is actually what the final product will look like remains to be seen, but it would make sense for the LEGO company to start with the original game and then afterward, venture into a bigger series of LEGO sets.
