Sony Reveals Next-Gen PS5 Capabilities In New Showcase (VIDEO)
Sony is among the first companies to divulge plans for the next generation of consoles, last month’s big showcase revealing plenty of impressive inclusions for the upcoming PlayStation 5. Though features such as ray tracing and backward compatibility were surely among the highlights, one of the biggest takeaways was the hardware’s insanely fast load times; touting the PS5 would be about “19 times faster” than the premium PlayStation 4 Pro.
During the recent Investors Relations Day held in Japan, a first peek at this impressive loading was demonstrated by Sony, showcasing how next-gen capabilities could actually compare to current hardware. As seen in the video below, the PS5 looks to be miles ahead in terms of power, having loaded an entire cityscape sequence from Marvel’s Spider-Man in the span of a split-second. In comparison, the PS4 Pro had taken roughly 8 seconds to achieve the same feat, noticeably stuttering when loading more advanced features like ray tracing and 3D audio.

If the PlayStation 5 breaks zero sweats in rendering a detailed world like Marvel’s Spider-Man, there’s no telling the incredible feats it could manage to pull off when actually putting the console through its paces. A top-tier CPU, beefed-up RAM, alongside the addition of solid-state storage is looking to be a pretty formidable combination, if not a bit worrying when considering the potential price point.
Though there’s been considerably cheap numbers thrown out there in the past, the inclusion of all this mouth-watering tech could potentially balloon the price well above $500 or more. Anyone who remembers Sony’s initial reveal of the PlayStation 3 ($599) knows how pricing can hurt or help a console’s launch. However, as no official figure has been unveiled as of yet, there’s still plenty of room to be optimistic about keeping gamers’ piggy banks intact.
