Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS4 Villain Possibly Revealed

As Insomniac’s superhero effort Marvel’s Spider-Man was able to web-sling itself a bevy of excellent reviews and success, a sequel to the arachnid adventure is all but confirmed to be on the way. The studio’s fantastic adaptation of the popular comic hero would seem to have more than plenty to offer an eventual sequel, and it appears a new tie-in comic may have given us a possible peek at that future.

The pages of Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man: City at War have brought Spidey’s in-game exploits full circle, back to the comics and fleshing his stories out with new details. The series’ latest issue introduces an all-new villain into the game’s canon in the insect-based villain SWARM (a.k.a. the Symbiotic Warfare Anthophila Restraining Model), showing the two in a spectacular battle. This baddie is particularly unique in being a sentient cloud of bees, able to use these winged stingers to conduct their painfully evil deeds.

As this comic firmly takes place in the Insomniac Spider-Man universe, it would seem to indicate SWARM may be featured in some capacity down the line. One thing that’s for sure is fighting a living hive-mind of bees could prove to be a pretty interesting, as anyone who’s fought The Pain in Metal Gear Solid 3 can attest. While this comic isn’t a 100% confirmation, an appearance in the upcoming sequel could turn out to be likely, as the buzzing villain’s in-game existence had already been teased beforehand by J. Jonah Jameson.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is out now exclusively for PlayStation 4.

What do you think? Would you enjoy the addition of SWARM as a villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, or are you not a fan of bees regardless of the medium?
