Divekick and Killer Instinct Dev Creating New God of War-Esque Title Called Extinction (VIDEO)
Iron Galaxy is developing a brand new game, although this time it won’t be a fighter. The studio is known for working on the last two seasons of Killer Instinct as well as a tow-button fighter called Divekick. Strangely however, the developer’s next title will not be a fighter but rather a action game that has quite a few similarities to the God of War series or Attack on Titan. Extinction, as it’s been named, received a new trailer announcing the game and hints at what players can expect from the upcoming monster-killer.
The game is very colorful, almost World of Warcraft-esque in style. The creatures and humans all appear very vibrant, almost larger than life: the perfect set-up for a classic hero tale. The dialogue in the video however indicates that the game will take on a darker tone but still leans towards the true hero archetype of story as seen in the trailer’s description:
From time immemorial, the world has been at war. For generations, humans have fought one another for land and riches while our true enemies have lurked in the distance. You are one of the world’s last defenders, a warrior named Avil equipped with the skill, speed and strength to oppose the endless wave of Ravenii and prevent a fate worse than death: Extinction.”
While it isn’t a gameplay trailer, players can get a feel for the scale the game will have as well as some hints as to the how the combat will play out. There will be a “dynamic-skill based combat” system which sees players quickly and fluidly moving around these giant ogres with multiple skills and abilities. There will be multiple skills trees allowing for different playstyles which will be used to disarm and dismember the giant beasts in a fully destructible environment.
There is a campaign in the game which will have multiple missions and side quests for players to take on as well as a custom battlegrounds with tasks for other players to take on. Though aside from the trailer, there isn’t much to go on in terms of story. There will be more Extinction coming at E3, so be sure to stay tuned to DFTG for the details.
