Crytek’s Hunt is Reborn With Upcoming Reboot – New Direction, Plus New Title (VIDEO)

Crytek's Hunt

Back in 2014, the developers behind Crysis, Crytek, announced a title called Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age which would have been a co-op game with a focus on hunting monsters. It would have been the first title for the then Crytek USA, but sadly after financial issues the studio closed down and the game went into limbo … until now. Crytek’s Hunt has had a name change to Hunt: Showdown and has been moved to Crytek Frankfurt who will take the game forward, albeit in a new direction.

During a press release today, Crytek announced the changes for this title, as well as some juicy details on what is to come, will be revealed during E3 this year. The game is loosely based upon Hunt: Horrors of the Guilded Age by taking the original concept and putting a different spin on the idea.

Where the original concept was for a co-op game of hunting monsters, it now appears that the game will feature some kind of PvP. The teaser trailer below shows off the drastic differences between the narratives of the two titles – a strong supernatural undertone is implied throughout the video, see the hunters in action for yourself if the video below:

Many of Crytek’s studio locations shut down unfortunately due to financial struggles, but it is great to see that the studios are preserving and have new goals on the horizon. Whether or not this will have an effect on the return of Hunt remains to be seen, though the studio is still working on various projects including Robinson: the Journey, Crytek’s VR title.
