GTA VI Might Have The Most Intelligent Drivers Yet
Games these days are becoming increasingly complex behind the scenes with advances in technology giving developers the freedom to design and create to their heart’s content. As game worlds become bigger, it’s becoming more and more important for developers to spend a period of time making sure that NPCs feel that much more immersive and real to help keep players invested in the space. Thankfully, developers such as Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive are working hard to make things a bit smoother. In this particular instance, it seems the developers are building a better method for NPC characters to interact with roads, potentially making future drivers in GTA VI quite lifelike compared to previous titles.
Recently posted on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, a patent application submitted under the title “System And Method For Virtual Navigation In A Gaming Environment” was discovered to be published by Take-Two in October of last year. The new system is designed to bring a “realistic virtual world” to the table that is not constrained by the limitations of hardware or software. Interestingly, the patent explains that NPC characters “can define their own specific characteristics for traversing the road nodes.” Understanding the concept of acceleration, braking time and distances to a complete stop, various speeds such as cornering or reaching top speed, and more are said to be feasible for AI characters will be able to do, making them appear more lifelike in the video game world.
Interesting Take-Two patent application.

There hasn’t been any information regarding when fans can expect to see GTA VI or if the new patent may even be used for the upcoming title, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt the long-rumored title in either respect. Rockstar Games has yet to make provide any concrete details as to what fans can expect to see in the upcoming game, but perhaps after GTA V launches on current-gen consoles later this year, players might be treated to more information. Let us know your thoughts on the new NPC navigation technology for Grand Theft Auto VI and more in the comments section below.
