EA Wants To “Double Down” On Developing Star Wars Games
EA wants to “double down” on developing Star Wars games, according to a recent interview with Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson. With phenomenal success for titles such as Jedi: Fallen Order, Battlefront, and even piqued interest for their upcoming Star Wars: Squadrons, the company wants to pursue the development with even greater enthusiasm.
“We’ve had success in first-person shooters, in RPGs, in action adventure, in MMORPGs, in mobile, and I believe we’re going to have success with Squadrons as well,” Wilson told investors during a company meeting (h/t GameSpot). “We’re going to double down on that partnership. Disney continues to be very very committed to the IP and to the canon.”
In addition to a greater influx of fans for the Star Wars property and their continued business partnership and “tremendous relationship” with Disney and Lucas, EA hopes it is only up from here. So far, they’ve had notable success with the series. Despite controversial business decisions in the past, it’s a well-loved franchise around the world and they have the resources to make dream projects come true.
“We’ve got the combination of great IP, great development expertise and experience and success from us across genres, across platforms, across business models. We’ve got new generations [of fans] coming to the IP all the time,” Wilson explained. “So our expectation is we think there continues to be a really really strong opportunity in and around that relationship and that IP going forward.”
It sounds like EA and team are committed to creating a wealth of experiences within the Star Wars franchise moving forward. Are you a fan of EA’s plans to develop more Star Wars games moving forward? Do you like how they continue to operate themselves within the IP or would you like to see the team concentrate on others?
