Unannounced Blizzard Shooter Hinted Within Several Job Listings
Blizzard’s current first person shooter, Overwatch, is wrapping up its first year anniversary. While the title is still going strong, it looks like it may have some in-house competition soon. The studio has added multiple job listings to its career page which indicate the possibility that an unannounced Blizzard shooter may be in the works.
Fans have discovered multiple recent listings hiring for an “unannounced project” at the Blizzzard’s Irvine studio, many of which hold hints as to what this title might be. Two Lead Software Engineer listings offer a clue into what the unannounced project will entail .
Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an experienced engine engineer to work on a robust first-person engine for an unannounced project. The ideal applicant has demonstrated ability to lead a team of engineers to success, has a vision for how a scalable, performant and technically excellent engine should be built, and has a passion for adopting state of the art rendering technology to implement visually stunning games.”
The implication of first person experience as beneficial indicates that the listings are not for the mobile Warcraft game also currently in development at the Irvine studio. It also appears unlikely that the listings are for something Overwatch related. The company does have quite a bit of lore during in-game events and external storytelling, but there’s no true narrative gameplay within the game itself. Only time will tell, however, this is all speculation to a few vague job listings.
For now, it seems fans will need to wait and see just what exactly Blizzard will do next. Perhaps we’ll even see an announcement at this year’s E3 – or at very least, Blizzcon 2017.
