Stranger Things Creators Setting Bar High for Plot of Season 2

Stranger Things Creators

The wildly popular Netflix Original sci-fi show has garnered a massive following in a single season. With season two coming this fall, fans are beginning to get excited about what’s to come. Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have begun to open up a bit about what to expect in season two.

In a recent interview with Variety, the Stranger Things creators talked at length about the show. Knowing that they had such a large following did change the way they approached the new season. Here is what Ross had to say about it:

The pressure is we know people are going to watch it. It’s trying to make something that we think they’re going to like. We’ve tried in the writers’ room to go, ‘Okay, what do we want to see?’ And hopefully people will respond to that as well.

According to the brothers, much of the next season was planned well in advance. Having an idea of where the show is going and what the fans want definitely influences the show and the Stranger Things creators are pretty invested in making the best show they can. In that vein, Matt weighed in with his thoughts:

A lot of the story for Season 2 was figured before the show had come out, so we had the big beats figured out already. Some of the stuff that fans had been asking for, we wanted the same stuff. But the point is not to give everyone what they think they want. Because I don’t think they really know what they want.”

While very little was said about the show specifically, they did reveal that new monsters would be emerging from the upside down. They also discussed how hiding the monsters would help create suspense in the show. Ultimately, the creatures are expected to be pretty cool.

Unfortunately, fan-favorite Barb will not be making a return in Season 2. The Stranger Things creators were surprised by how much the character took off, but said that they thought it had a lot to do with how relatable she was. While a sad revelation, given her demise it is kind of expected.

The show is expected to come out this October, just in time for fans to get geared up for Halloween. David Harbor (Jim Hopper) shared a considerable amount of enthusiasm for what he has seen of the show and fans can expect as much story as effect. Promising high tension, excitement, and mystery, fans are sure to be pleased with the next season of Stranger Things.
