BlizzCon 2021 Cancelled, To Be Replaced By ‘Hybrid’ Event Next Year
It looks like BlizzCon 2021 has joined the growing list of gaming conventions that have been canceled due to COVID-19. Blizzard has announced that the event has officially been canceled, to be replaced by a ‘hybrid’ event that will take place in 2022. The unfortunate news comes by way of a recent BlizzCon post from executive producer Saralyn Smith, who explained that the “ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic” have made it difficult to put together a full live show by November of this year. Due to this, BlizzCon 2021 has been cancelled in favor of a hybrid event, blending smaller in-person gatherings as well as digital content that falls in line with the recent BlizzConline.
The ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic have impacted our ability to properly move forward on many of these fronts, and ultimately we’re now past the point where we’d be able to develop the kind of event we’d want to create for you in November.”
There was no mention as to exactly what the event coordinators have planned for the future event, but the post does mention that the team will reveal more as time goes on. It’s a little disappointing, but still understandable with all the problems that have arisen due to the pandemic.
