Sunset Overdrive Trademark Registered With Sony
Inspired by a wide range of games from Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank to Jet Set Radio, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and even Peggle of all things, Sunset Overdrive became a glorious ode to all things punk rock in an enjoyable romp through a wild and wacky world filled with hilarious characters, a bright and colorful landscape, and more. The title originally released as an Xbox One exclusive, a strange move for Insomniac Games who previously had a long-standing relationship with PlayStation before being acquired in 2019. While the title was later ported to PC, PlayStation fans still have not seen an appearance of the title, at least not yet.
A recently spotted trademark may hope to turn the tables as the filing shows Sony has registered the phrase “Sunset Overdrive” with a status update on April 24th of this year. While the listing alone could mean just about anything at this point, it does fall in line with recent rumors hinting that both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 could be getting a port of the title, or perhaps even a sequel. No confirmation has been given by Sony or Insomniac regarding the validity of these rumors, but here’s to wishful thinking that something might be coming from the franchise.

Seeing more Sunset Overdrive would be a glorious thing, between character customization options, the crazy colorful world, the dark humor that filled the storyline, and the well-crafted game systems, the title might make for an excellent stepping stone for something even greater. Perhaps one day fans will see a sequel or even a series of titles that don’t take themselves too seriously and simply allow players to let their hair down. Until this trademark filing turns out to be something more concrete, Sunset Overdrive is currently only available on PC and Xbox One.
