Diablo Immortal Receiving "Enthusiastic" Responses From Playtesters

Activision Blizzard has been able to establish several of their franchises as big multimedia franchises, with Diablo being one with perhaps the most promising future. Seeking to expand the series beyond its original PC and console gaming roots, Blizzard has sought to bring Diablo to life in a Netflix anime series, and a mobile game, Diablo Immortal. While the announcement of the game at Blizzcon 2018 was met with less than stellar fan reactions, Blizzard has been hard at work to make the game palatable for veteran and newer fans. Now, Blizzard has provided an update on development, stating that Diablo Immortal playtesters are enjoying it quite well so far.

Diablo Immortal

MP1st has reported on the recent quarterly Activision Blizzard earnings call. Speaking on the call was Activision President and Chief Operating Officer Daniel Alegre, who provided an update to investors on the development of Diablo Immortal. Blizzard has been fairly quiet about the game’s progress since its infamous announcement, but it seems that initial playtesting by Blizzard employees has begun. When Diablo Immortal came up during the call, here is what Alegre had to say about playtesting:

Amongst multiple Blizzard mobile titles under development Diablo Immortal saw a hugely enthusiastic response in internal testing in the third quarter and will soon enter external regional testing.”

It should be noted that such positive response came from Blizzard employees, so the comments may need to be seen with a healthy dose of skepticism. Even when the external regional testing begins, it will not be accessible to the general public, and may not even be tested by those who registered. Still, it would seem that the game’s progress has come quite far along, which is quite favorable, especially considering the amount of delays and impact that the 2020 coronavirus pandemic has had on developers throughout the industry. Hopefully the game excites gamers outside of Blizzard when it is made available to play, so that the Diablo empire can continue its expansion throughout culture. At the very least, it couldn’t possibly be worse than the Diablo 3 launch, right?
