Xbox Boss Even More Confident In Xbox Series X Following PS5 Reveal

It looks like Sony’s recent PlayStation 5 presentation is continuing to have lasting effects in the gaming industry. Last month’s partial system spec reveal helmed by Mark Cerny was initially planned for an audience of developers, and as such many casual viewers felt alienated by the showing. The undesired effects don’t end there, either, as Xbox boss Phil Spencer is apparently even more confident in Microsoft’s Xbox Series X following Sony’s presentation.

In a recent interview with IGN, Phil Spencer stated that going into the PS5 reveal, he felt “really good” about the Xbox Series X, with his opinion changing for the better following the presentation. “I felt really good about how [Xbox] Series X lines up… When I saw the public disclosure (of the PS5 specs), I felt even better on the choices we made on our platform,” said Spencer. “I had a lot of confidence in our hardware team. The work that Jason Ronald and the team has done is just fantastic.”

Naturally that could be seen as a bit of a dig against Sony and the PS5, though it cannot be stressed enough that the console itself hasn’t actually been fully revealed, just an initial public disclosure of specs. Consoles aside, the Xbox boss himself also seems to be of a mind that it will end up being the games themselves that determine where things stand, not just hardware. “Our next-gen hardware tech makes games better, but ultimately the games are what will make people excited,” Spencer said. “That was one of the reasons why we revealed XSX with Hellblade II at TGA. The vast majority of our talks going forward will be about great games the people will play.”

Both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 are slated to release in Holiday 2020.
