Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Confirmed As Part 2 Of Remake Series (VIDEO)

While Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade ended up being a lovely stop-gap for fans, it still felt like an incredibly long wait for any new details regarding the highly anticipated second game in the remake series. Thankfully, the wait is finally over, with Square Enix releasing a first look at part 2, officially titled Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

As part of the ongoing Final Fantasy VII 25th anniversary celebration, Square Enix has released an intriguing teaser trailer for Rebirth. The trailer opens with some dialogue that carries over themes from the first remake title, suggesting that the future can be changed and that things are still very much up in the air. The trailer then shows a bit of the iconic flashback featuring Cloud and Sephiroth while they’re still part of Shinra as they work their way towards Nibelheim, during which Cloud talks about some of his experiences below the Shinra manor in town. Check out the trailer below:

Viewers are then treated to a continuation of the epilogue from the first game, which suggests that in some sort of alternate reality Zack manages to drag Cloud all the way to Midgar and not get turned into swiss cheese on the way. This is particularly intriguing, not because of the obvious potential repercussions, but also because Crisis Core is getting a complete remake releasing later this year. As such, we may see some sort of tie-in, or perhaps alternate ending, that lines up with what we’re seeing in the above trailer. Say what you want about Square Enix’s take on a Final Fantasy VII ‘Remake’, at least they’ve got people curious.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now in development and will be releasing “next winter,” according to Square Enix, which could mean either late 2023 or early 2024.
