Vicarious Visions Reportedly Getting Rebranded Under Blizzard

Vicarious Visions

Blizzard Entertainment has been through many changes throughout the years, and their continued success has allowed them to grow. The fan-favorite gaming publisher has been able to grow by acquiring studios, with one of their more recent success stories being Vicarious Visions. While that studio has mostly handled smaller projects and ports of older games, they have especially found success with their remakes of the Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Games. It was known earlier this year that Vicarious Visions would be merged with Blizzard Entertainment, and now it seems that the studio will see its name changed.

Polygon has recently shared intel given to them by sources close to Blizzard Entertainment and Vicarious Visions. According to these sources, Vicarious will see its named changed after 30 years. This name change comes after the merger with Blizzard completed this past January. The announcement of a name change was disclosed during a Town Hall meeting this past Wednesday that was highly encouraged for employees to attend, with some even being present in costumes. While the name change might not be entirely surprising, it was a fairly sudden reveal for these employees, as it had not been suggested before as a possibility. One employee described their experience with the news as follows:

For all of the leadership’s talk about being more transparent in response to the lawsuit and resulting fiasco, the fact they decided to blindside us all with this feels about as far from transparent as you can get,”

No official new name has been announced yet, but several employees believe Blizzard Albany will become their new name, with Albany, NY being the home of Vicarious Visions. So far, it has not been suggested that any layoffs would occur, though there is always a possibility of that in the future. Whatever the new name for the studio ends up being, it seems that their legacy of high quality work will still survive. As long as we keep getting good Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remakes with the best soundtracks, I’ll be happy.
