Ubisoft To Release 3 To 4 More AAA Games In 2019
Ubisoft is keeping itself particularly busy as it heads into its next fiscal year. The release of The Division 2 is on the horizon, and Rainbow Six Siege is as busy as ever with loads of new content for tactical shooter fans to enjoy. Now, we’ve recently learned that the publisher’s schedule will only get busier as the year goes by, with Ubisoft committing to releasing between three and four AAA games by early 2020.
The news comes by way of a recent financial briefing wherein the Assassin’s Creed publisher confirmed that between three and four AAA games are slated to release during the next financial year. Said year runs between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020, so these games can be expected to release within the next 12-13 months.
Of the three to four games mentioned, only the upcoming open-world pirate game Skull and Bones has been confirmed. This gives us two to three new AAA titles that have yet to be announced, though our guess is that one of the games will be the as-yet unannounced Watch Dogs 3. Yet another possibility could be a battle royale game from Ubisoft, something that CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned during a recent earnings call. Apex Legends has given the battle royale genre a bit of a renaissance, and publishers will likely continue to want a slice of the pie going forward.
Last, but certainly not least, is the possibility of a new Splinter Cell game. A concept for a new entry in the series was confirmed by a former Ubisoft dev late last year, and fans will likely always be down for more Sam Fisher action. There are of course other possibilities, though we tend to lean towards the ones mentioned above in terms of viability. DFTG will stay on top of the news as we move into the new fiscal year for Ubisoft.
