Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Delay Confirmed By Ubisoft

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Delay

While the trend happens a bit less frequently these days, it is still quite common for video games to adapt popular film franchises to an interactive medium. This has especially lent itself well to science fiction franchises, whose futuristic worlds are able to become even more alive in digital form. One fairly recent sci-fi franchise to receive the game treatment has been the Avatar series. Another trend that unfortunately has become common has been for game projects to receive significant delays from their release dates. Now, Ubisoft has announced an Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora delay that postpones the intended release window.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Delay

Ubisoft recently released their first quarter of 2022-23 report on their official website. The report provides updates on different goings-on at Ubisoft, with much of the report informing internal and external parties about major upcoming titles in the works. One of the biggest that was planned for the latter of 2022 was to be a new game set in the Avatar franchise meant to act as a sort of tie-in for the Avatar movie sequel hitting theaters in December. However, it seems that Ubisoft has confirmed an Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora delay with this report.

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will now release in 2023-24. We are committed to delivering a cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advantage of next-gen technology, as this amazing global entertainment brand represents a major multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft.”

It is interesting to note the multi-year opportunity aspect of the game, even despite the Frontiers of Pandora delay. Ubisoft has adopted the ongoing support and services style of game structure for several titles in recent years, so this might indicate a similar move for its Avatar game. The film series actually has several sequels planned for release over the next decade, so even with the game being delayed from the second Avatar film, it could potentially tie in well with the subsequent sequel films. While this delay may disappoint some fans, hopefully, it gives Ubisoft the time they need to make this game right for Avatar fans. Remember, you don’t choose Avatar. It chooses you.
