The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt New-Gen Update Announced By CDPR

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The look of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is already an impressive feast for the eyes (especially in the modding community), but it appears we can expect an even more enhanced version of the RPG title in the foreseeable future. Developer CD Projekt RED has announced a new-gen update is on the way for The Witcher 3, which will provide new polish for players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. While little information was revealed about the forthcoming upgrade, fans can expect it to drop sometime in the second half of 2021.

This big piece of news comes as part of a new corporate strategy update issued by CD Projekt, which detailed the company’s planned approach to game development for the immediate future. Addressing the infamously troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR stressed a series of changes were currently underway, including overhauls to approaching employee work conditions, marketing campaigns, as well as how far in advance to announce new projects.

Regarding the latter, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 were both issued an official content roadmap for the remainder of 2021. Though much of the Cyberpunk side of things was already announced beforehand, the new-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3 is definitely something new that fans can get excited about. Adding to the smoldering adventures of Geralt of Rivia, the mobile game The Witcher: Monster Slayer as well as the card-based spin-off Gwent were also confirmed for releases in 2021 as well.

Though The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released nearly six years ago at this point, it’s surely welcome to see the open-world fantasy RPG brought forward to current consoles. Even more notable is CDPR’s initiative to improve internal and external communications, which will hopefully cut back on months of issue-fixing patches for its future releases. Though a new Witcher game is not quite on the horizon yet, the magical franchise is currently striving on Netflix with multiple live-action adaptations in the works.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility.
