Starfield On PS5: Sony Says They’ll “See What Happens”

PS5 Starfield

Though the game was announced two years ago, speculation is still as intense as ever for Bethesda’s upcoming RPG Starfield. Little official word has materialized since being revealed at E3 2018, but Microsoft’s eventful acquisition of Bethesda and ZeniMax hinted at the game’s possible future as an Xbox-exclusive. With the space-faring title currently under the Xbox brand’s control, it appears Sony is skeptical of whether the game will end up on the PlayStation 5.

Divulged in a recent interview with TASS, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan spoke about the future potential of the PlayStation brand as well as the chances of future Bethesda games like Starfield or The Elder Scrolls VI ending up on the PS5. Unfortunately, it appears Ryan is just as unsure as the rest of the fans, as the CEO admitted Sony will have to “wait and see what happens” on that front. “That’s a decision that is out of our hands, we’ll wait and see what happens,” Ryan said. “I look forward to learning about that.”

We respect the steps taken by our competition, they seem logical and sensible. But we’re equally happy and confident, we’ve got a better launch lineup than we’ve ever had at any of our console launches.”

Sony’s lack of knowledge on a Starfield isn’t entirely surprising, especially as not even Xbox has finalized plans for the title. Microsoft has instead chosen to act on a case-by-case basis with regards to multi-platform releases, with the company targeting a loose “first, better, best” approach for future games. Recently, Bethesda’s Todd Howard dropped a few new details about Starfield, including map size, which was touted as being the biggest in the company’s history. Before the big Bethesda acquisition, Sony reportedly attempted to secure PS5 exclusivity for the game themselves in a similar manner to Arkane shooter Deathloop. However, things obviously didn’t work out.

What do you think? Are you bummed that Starfield may not arrive on the PlayStation 5, or do you feel that Microsoft will eventually share their toys with Sony?
