New SOCOM Game Reportedly In Development For PS5
Tactical shooters have seemingly been left to the wayside in recent years, with the genre as a whole seeing a decline as titles like Call of Duty have become increasingly popular. That said, it looks like one of the more successful franchises in the genre, SOCOM, may be making a triumphant comeback according to a new set of rumors.
A notorious industry insider by the name of Tidux released a Tweet back in August of 2017 claiming that Sony was talking internally about bringing the SOCOM franchise back to life. However, 2 years later there’s been no word on the subject. Recently, however, Tidux released a new tweet quoting the original 2017 post, while also claiming that Guerrilla Games’ “second team” is supposedly working on a multiplayer SOCOM title.

Guerrilla Games has a strong track record of successful titles, with Horizon Zero Dawn being one of the most recent. The company has also done impressive work on the Killzone franchise, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see the company heading up the SOCOM series as well. With the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, however, it would also make sense that the developers would want to focus their attention building that franchise and working on the sequel, which corroborates Tidux’s Tweet that states that a secondary team is the one doing the heavy lifting for a SOCOM comeback.
So far there’s been no confirmation that any of the rumors are true, but it is quite enticing nonetheless. Let us know your thoughts on the recent SOCOM rumor and more in the comments section below.
