Final Fantasy XIV Eventually Coming To Xbox One, Says Phil Spencer
Ever since game director Naoki Yoshida took over development of Final Fantasy XIV and helped relaunch it as A Realm Reborn, the Square Enix MMORPG has enjoyed a massive amount of success, which has only increased with the release of each new expansion. Unfortunately, the title has only ever been available for both PC and PlayStation 4, effectively leaving Xbox One owners out in the cold. That appears to be changing, though, as it has been revealed that Final Fantasy XIV will eventually be heading to the Xbox One.
Recently speaking to press during Microsoft’s X019 event, executive vice president of gaming Phil Spencer directly confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV will at some point be available on the Xbox One. “Rest assured, that we will be bringing [Final Fantasy 14] to Xbox; we have a great relationship with Yoshida-san, and we are working through what it means to bring a cross-platform MMO that they have run for years,” Spencer said.
-It will be one of the games that is coming and it’s something that I know our Xbox fans will be incredibly excited to see.”
It has always been known that the primary reason why FFXIV has yet to make the journey to the Xbox One is because Sony has been particularly stingy about cross-platform play. The fact that there is now an open discussion about such a thing happening can only means good things for the MMORPG, and reinvigorating the player base by lumping in Xbox One players will help ensure the longevity of the title.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PC and PlayStation 4. A live-action TV series based on the title is also in development.
