Sea Of Thieves Customization, Pirate Legends, And More Revealed

Pirate Legends

Sea of Thieves continues to prove to players that it will be an interesting title filled with pirate ships, cutlasses, and more as players will see themselves take part in hardcore seafaring, plundering loot, and enjoyable combat. Before the March launch date, new details on the game have been revealed explaining what players will be able to look forward to from picking their characters to becoming pirate legends.

According to a recent report, the shared-world adventure has a unique way of going about the character selection process offering players the ability to choose a character from a random generated set of 8.  The idea behind this is to give players the ability to choose a character they can roleplay and connect with rather than simply attempt to craft a version of themselves for the game (which, sad). While the physical appearance of the characters can’t be changed, players will be able to alter the clothing choices, which will allow for a little more customization in the name of immersion.

Ships will work in a similar fashion. While players won’t be able to actually own any one ship, the game will make up for it through customization options from sail designs, figureheads, and a unique hull which can be bought permanently; similar to the outfitting options for characters. Sailing the seas is all well and good but what is the driving force that will encourage continued play? A second report explains that Sea of Thieves will send players on a mission to become pirate legends, building up a reputation with the game’s three trading companies and proving themselves to be the better pirate. In addition to gaining the reputation of a legendary pirate, players will also gain access to a secret hideout. Design director Mike Chapman had this to say:

When you become a pirate legend, you discover a secret and get access to a key, shall we say, that gives you access to this location. It’s seamlessly hidden in the world. It’s not loading off a menu. It was already in our closed beta, but no one could become pirate legend and unlock it—but it was there.”

Players will also be granted access to Legendary Voyages which will give them the chance to earn incredible top-of-the-line cosmetic options made of Kraken bones. More content will come available post launch such as limited time events, new quests, and more as the title evolves. Sea of Thieves is set to release on PC and Xbox One on March 20th of this year.
