PUBG’s Bluehole Announces New Steampunk MMORPG (VIDEO)

Steampunk MMORPG

Upon hearing the name Bluehole, eyes turn to the highly popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds but soon that might not be all they’re known for. The company has stated in the past that a PUBG sequel probably won’t happen, leaving fans to wonder where the company would go next. Of all the games they could create, their next work is something quite unexpected. Enter Ascent: Infinite Realm, an intriguing steampunk MMORPG that will be published by Kakao Games of Black Desert Online fame.

The game will feature five classes at its start and they’ll be fairly familiar to most MMO veterans. The Warlord with a superior defense to other classes, wielding a giant hammer and shield allowing him to decimate foes and defend allies from harm. The Sorceress wields an arsenal of elemental magic to devastating effect, though suffers the disadvantage of less defense than that of other classes. Gunslingers attack from range, be it the rapid fire of dual pistols or the high damage sniping of a rifle making them an excellent member of any party. Assassins are straightforward, dealing lethal amounts of damage with dual blades very quickly before vanishing as quickly as they came. Lastly, the Mystic can command the powers of nature to heal allies and punish her enemies at range.

The classes may seem fairly generic at first glance, but the gameplay of this steampunk MMORPG is anything but that. Vehicles in the game aren’t going to be just for transportation like so many other titles. Players will be able to use them as weapons when fighting dragons, other airships, and more. There even appears to be some large scale warfare that will take place in the air between ships of all sizes, which can be boarded. Players can even fight from the ground in giant mechanized suits to further the combat variety.

Players will also be able to customize just about everything from their ships, characters, and even estates that will be purchasable within the game.  They can also create their own quests and change the difficulty of dungeons and hunting grounds within the game. With so much personalization, this game could truly feel like another world like no other game has done before.

Dragons, magic, steampunk flair, and much more make for a very intriguing game. Players can check out more of the game at this years G-Star, as well as meet members of both the Bluehole Studio and Kakao Games teams, see live shows, and win prizes. Keep an eye on DFTG for more updates on this very ambitious MMO. Until then, Bluehole fans will have to survive on chicken dinners as PUBG continues to grow and expand.
