As video games continue to evolve to greater and greater graphical capabilities, but it seems that the fastest growing and most lucrative part of the industry would be mobile gaming. With smartphones in so many hands already, built-in audiences have latched onto games like Candy Crush and Angry Birds. Perhaps one of the most successful mobile game developers has been Niantic, which was behind the hit mobile games Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Now, the developer is continuing this adaptative creative streak with a newly announced Transformers mobile game titled Transformers: Heavy Metal.

Niantic announced the new Transformers: Heavy Metal game on their official Twitter account recently. The Transformers mobile game is being made in partnership with Hasbro and TOMY Company, and will utilize an augmented reality gameplay structure similar to the previous Niantic games Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The game will recruit players to join the Guardian Network, consisting of humans that will assist the Autobots in their conquest against the Decepticons on earth.

Transformers Mobile Game

Similar to Pokémon Go, the Transformers mobile game will have players explore their real world map to collect resources and engage in one-on-one battles with enemies. Where this game will differ is that combat will use a turn-based system rather than real-time combat, and raid-style battles will require working with other players, unlike Pokémon Go. Some of the released screenshots for the Transformers mobile game show Autobot Bumblebee preparing to battle against Decepticon enemies like Starscream over what would be a designated area like the gyms in Pokémon Go. Transformers has been able to attract fans across several generations, and while some may count this out as a simple mobile game, if Niantic has proven anything with their projects, they are more than meets the eye.
