Pokemon Go Ed Sheeran Virtual Concert Brings Squirtle Squad Back

Pokemon Go Ed Sheeran

Pokemon has been having a big year in 2021, and even though the year is nearly over, the fun certainly isn’t. As Pokemon celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, everything from Pokemon cards in Happy Meals to the more recently released remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Earlier in the year, Pokemon collaborated with famous musicians like Katy Perry to release new Pokemon-themed music, and even a whole virtual concert starring Post Malone. Now, to close out the year, a new Pokemon Go Ed Sheeran crossover event brings the famous artist to the game, but some of his favorite Pokemon as well.

Niantic has announced the new Pokemon Go Ed Sheeran collaboration event on their official Twitter account recently. The big focus of the event will be a new virtual concert featuring everyone’s favorite redheaded guitarist. Starting Monday, November 22nd 11:00 AM PST until the end of the month, players will be able to watch the virtual concert on demand in the game. Most of the songs will be ones from the artist’s new album “=”, but some of his singles from previous albums like “Thinking Out Loud” will also be performed.

In addition to the Pokemon Go Ed Sheeran virtual concert, the event will also pay tribute to Sheeran’s favorite Pokemon. The musician apparently always chooses the water-type starter Pokemon in the games, so the water-type starter Pokemon available in the game will populate more often during the event. The fan-favorite Squirtle with sunglasses (a nod to the Squirtle Squad from the anime) will be available once more during the event as well. There’s also a free Ed Sheeran hoodie up for grabs for free as well. Sheeran has shown his love for Pokemon in the past, so this collaboration is so good, it sends “Shivers” up my spine.
