The last year has provided a great amount of promise for video game franchises looking to branch out into other forms of entertainment. Last year saw The Witcher become a breakthrough live-action success for Netflix and this past weekend, Sonic the Hedgehog earned the highest-grossing box office opening weekend ever for a video game adaptation. Many have wanted to see Activision Blizzard franchises on television and film, given their rich characters and lore. Now, it seems that an Overwatch cartoon series and a Diablo anime have both been leaked by a very important figure at Activision Blizzard.

Activision President Nick Van Dyk recently updated his official LinkedIn profile with new projects that he has worked on with the company. It seems that one of the newest ones has been an Overwatch cartoon series that has yet to be officially announced. According to Van Dyk’s profile, he developed the series with an unnamed creative partner and sold the project to a network or streaming service—the specifics of which are not given.

Van Dyk’s new updates also make mention of a Diablo anime series, which had been heard previously from sources but not heavily disclosed by Blizzard themselves. This Diablo anime series is supposedly in the works at Netflix and will stream worldwide whenever it hits release. Many are expecting the series to be in a similar vein to the Castlevania anime series, which is also available on the streaming service. In addition, Van Dyk’s profile also makes mention of a planned Call of Duty cinematic universe of films, but these have since been abandoned in favor of focusing on the CoD video games themselves.

All of this news will surely come as a pleasant surprise to fans of Diablo and Overwatch, and will hopefully expose the franchises to new audiences who might otherwise miss out on the beloved characters and worlds. For now, though, fans will have to wait patiently for the hefty payload of joy that is promised to come.
