The Official Full-Length Trailer for the Death Note Live Action Adaptation Has Arrived (VIDEO)

The official full-length trailer for the Death Note live action adaptation from Netflix has arrived, highlighting the modern characters and settings in the United States. In the video, which can be viewed below, the trailer follows Light Turner (Nat Wolff) and his relationship with Ryuk the “Death God” (Willem Dafoe) who can be seen very clearly at several instances through the video. There are glimpses of a young woman representing Misa Amane as Mia Sutton (Margaret Qualley). Of course, there’s also good shots and pans of Light’s arch-nemesis L (Lakeith Stanfield).

One of the first takeaways is each of the character’s looks, which are very different from the Japanese characters that fans of the manga and anime series are used to. There are obvious differences in outward personalities for each of the main characters as well. Some may be taken aback because of that, but it always important to keep an open mind. Another aspect to mention is that the Death Note live action is quite notably action-packed, which may allude to less of a psychological thriller. However, keep in mind, there will be plenty of creative liberties the team takes in creating a Western film adaptation of a Japanese manga. Just because it is different doesn’t mean the movie is doomed to fail or entertain. Based on the trailer alone, nothing is clear, but it is apparent that Light has no easy time of harnessing his newfound power while evading the prying eyes of media and the police.

The Death Note live action movie adaptation is set to premiere August 25th, 2017 on the Netflix streaming service. A subscription is needed in order to access content.
