The new live-action remake of the popular anime is coming to Netflix in just a few months. The director, Adam Wingard, has been trying to get fans pumped for the upcoming film and may have succeeded today when he revealed a new poster that features Ryuk from Netflix’s Death Note. Check it out below:

In the new poster for Netflix’s Death Note, we see one of the main characters Ryuk, a Shinigami or “God of Death”. Fans can see that he is holding an apple which is obviously a reference to the original show. The black and white poster also shows the premiere date of August 25th.

There has been just a little controversy surrounding the new film because some say that this new movie is a prime example of “white washing”. Although it has been publicly discussed that the Asian community is majorly underrepresented in Hollywood, it may benefit the fan-base to wait and see what the final result will be before passing judgment. Since Death Note is one of Japan’s most popular series, here’s to hoping that the team behind the film does it justice and stays as true to the original material as possible. Even though the first trailer for Netflix’s Death Note received mixed reviews, there are optimists out there!

Netflix's Death Note

In case you have never heard of Death Note, here is a brief description:

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects—and he’s bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But will Light succeed in his noble goal, or will the Death Note turn him into the very thing he fights against?”
