New Pokémon Snap Trailer Shows Off Gameplay Features (VIDEO)
The Pokémon Company has produced quite a few games over the years, be it from the core series featuring monster taming and battling or spin-offs that place an emphasis on different facets of the world or gameplay. The franchise even produced an older title that played into the idea of exploration throughout the wonderful world of Pokémon called Pokémon Snap, a rail ‘shooter’ that saw players taking pictures of the various creatures in different locals. While the title was simple in both premise and design, it still managed to capture the hearts of fans all the same. With a direct sequel called New Pokémon Snap on the way for the Nintendo Switch it will be interesting to see what new features and mechanics are available for players as they attempt to snap ’em all, and now a new gameplay trailer has been released providing an overview of what to expect.
The new trailer runs about 6 minutes long and features a deep dive into the mechanics that the title will feature. Similar to its predecessor, New Pokémon Snap will see players helping out another Pokémon expert – Professor Mirror, this time around – who along with his assistants are requesting help in procuring the best pictures of Pokémon throughout the world. While the original title only featured 63 of the original 151 creatures, the upcoming title will feature a total of 200 and will be spread across a variety of locales for fans to explore.
New Pokémon Snap will feature the same rail shooter system present in the original title. As players do their best to tale pictures of fantastic beasts they’ll be graded on each photo from 1 to 4 depending on positioning, actions being preformed by each creature, and more. As players collect better and better pictures they’ll unlock access to new areas to explore. Since gaming has come a long way since the original, the title will also feature some new mechanics such as the ability to share the acquired pictures with friends over social media, complete with the ability to spice up each photo with a variety of frames, filters, stickers, and more. There’s also an optional competitive system as well, with players able to show off their skills via an in-game ranking system should they choose to do so.
New Pokémon Snap is slated for an April 30th release date on the Nintendo Switch.
