The summer season continues and the scorching weather has undoubtedly inspired many to keep indoors until the deathly heat dies down. Luckily for those who favor the shade, Netflix is updating subscribers with a refreshing bevy of releases; nostalgic revivals for The Dark Crystal as well as Nickelodeon’s Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim being a few of the long-awaited highlights confirmed for Netflix August 2019.

The beginning of the month brings the usual flood of third-party movies like 2010’s Liam Neeson-led Clash of the Titians, the 2004 Punisher film, as well as several entries of the Rocky film series. On the ‘Original’ side of things, Netflix August has oodles to offer, including new seasons of comedic wrestling show GLOW, introspective crime drama Mindhunter, and vibrant animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. New anime also see premieres with Cannon Busters, Carole & Tuesday, and a second part for Hero Mask. In addition, Netflix debuts the fitting new documentary Enter the Anime, a film which extensively chronicles the anime fandom.

The selections for this month are almost sure to keep the fun flowing, though that doesn’t mean there won’t be takeaways during Netflix August. The next few weeks also say goodbye to several notable selections such as undead comedy Zombieland, McDonald’s origin The Founder, and the remaining films of the Final Destination series. Nieces and nephews nationwide are also in for a disappointment as all 5 seasons of children’s show Chuggington are expiring as part of Disney’s continued preparation for their own streaming platform.

Since last month‘s selections went live, exciting news has been teased regarding the future of Netflix. Not only was there confirmation of a Cuphead cartoon show but also a bevy of information about the upcoming series based on The Witcher. The fantasy adaptation was revealed to retain “adult” elements from its source material, with the showrunner confirming several inclusions and exclusions that fans may have questioned. Of course, there was also the epic trailer debuted during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
