New Sonic Movie Trailer Shows Off The Hedgehog's Updated Look (VIDEO)

It’s been months since Paramount Pictures unleashed the first look at ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ on the world, the film’s debut trailer earning oodles of criticism and hilarious memes for the hero’s bizarre “realistic” appearance. Though the Sonic movie has considerable talent like Oscar-nominated director Jeff Fowler, legendary funnyman Jim Carrey, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic; steady disapproval of the hedgehog’s look has nonetheless led Paramount to update the design and offer a new release date to properly accommodate the task.

With the reveal of an all-new trailer, it appears now is finally the time for fans to check out the new Sonic movie design–and it doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint. The new footage shows off a remarkably different look for the blue speedster, the character ditching his humanoid proportions for a more cartoonish design in line with SEGA’s long-running video game series. Fans also get a better look at the movie’s story reality-hopping story alongside peeks at several lightning-fast action scenes–one notably seeing Sonic zip along the Great Wall of China. Check out the trailer below alongside an updated plot synopsis.

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.”

This new Sonic movie reveal arrives after several image leaks taking place over the last few weeks, virtually all of which looking more credible following the debut of the new trailer. The most recent leak not only showed off the most spectacular image yet, but also a potential trailer date set for November 12th (today, as of writing). Today’s reveal of new footage also appeared alongside a new poster for the video game adaptation (seen below), the promotional material likely looking very familiar to those who remember the fan-pleasing first redesign leak last month.

Sonic the Hedgehog releases in theaters on February 14th, 2020.
