Koei Tecmo Becomes Latest Victim Of Cyberattack
Cyberattacks aren’t an uncommon thing in today’s world, with numerous attacks being leveled against multiple high profile companies over the years. Now Koei-Tecmo has become the latest to be hit by a cyberattack, shutting down the company’s websites until further notice.
Currently, both the European and North American websites remain offline and visitors to the site are met with a message stating, “Due to the possibility of an external cyberattack on this website, it is temporarily closed as we investigate the issu.e. The company doesn’t believe there was any compromised financial information but did acknowledge in a recent press release that there was an attack that was suspected to have occurred on Christmas Day last year.
Koei Tecmo revealed in the statement that at least 65,000 accounts on the European forums alone were compromised. It is possible that account names, encrypted passwords, and even email addresses may have been put at risk due to the compromised accounts. The company also states that users who frequently pair the same email address and password are being advised to change their login information as soon as possible.
Koei-Tecmo is responsible for a variety of titles such as the Dynasty Warriors franchise, Hyrule Warriors, Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, and the Dead or Alive franchise.
