New Fatal Frame Game Could Happen After Maiden Of Black Water Remaster

New Fatal Frame Camera Obscura

Fatal Frame is set to get its first non-pachinko game in years with the upcoming multiplatform release of Maiden of Black Water. While technically only a remaster, it appears fans might eventually expect a new Fatal Frame game if everything bodes well with the re-release. Hopes of a new entry were recently floated by series producer Keisuke Kikuchi, who discussed a potential future for the long-dormant horror franchise.

As per an interview with Famitsu (via Nintendo Everything), Kikuchi expressed his desire to see a new Fatal frame adventure materialize. However, it appears a reprise may only be possible if the new Maiden of Black Water remaster finds success. “That’s what I’m hoping,” the producer explained. “We’re releasing this game to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary, and we’re hoping a lot of fans will take the opportunity to play the game.”

“We’d love this to lead to a new title.”

Fans have been clamoring for an all-new Fatal Frame game for a long while, with Kikuchi among them hoping to spark the series’ continuation on a number of occasions. Even with the series’ producer leading the charge, such plans have never gone very far as Nintendo still holds publishing rights to the horror franchise. While Big N can’t yet picture a new Fatal Frame in its future, Kikuchi previously stated he’s “never really given up the idea” of more games, so it might only be a matter of time before the Camera Obscura opens its shutter once again.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water releases for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 28th.
