Live-Action Dynasty Warriors Movie Hits Netflix Next Month (VIDEO)

Live-Action Dynasty Warriors Movie Netflix

While the Dynasty Warriors franchise has provided players the means to unleash some of the most one-sided battles in all of gaming, it looks like the long-running hack-and-slash saga is getting a fittingly action-packed adaptation. As revealed in a new trailer, Netflix will soon premiere a live-action Dynasty Warriors movie on the streaming service, with the over-the-top Chinese fantasy epic set to arrive on July 1st.

As apparent by the two minutes of footage, this Dynasty Warriors movie doesn’t look to be pulling any punches in the action department, with its battle scenes replicating the signature ‘1 vs. 1000’ gameplay of the original Koei Techmo games. Scenes of characters swiping piles of enemies into the air, wielding fantastic mystical weapons, and a blaring heavy metal soundtrack looks to effectively realize the source material in a manner not often depicted in live-action adaptations. Check out the trailer below.

While this spectacular Dynasty Warriors movie is only now coming to the west, the film first graced the big screen in late April as it released for audiences in Hong Kong and China. Production on the adaptation began as far back as 2016, with filming taking place in various locales around mainland China and New Zealand, and post-production lasting well over a year as filmmakers crafted the movie’s extensive special effects-driven battles. As per the film’s description on Netflix:

“Warlords, warriors and statesmen wage a battle for supremacy in this fantasy tale based on the hit video games and the ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms.'”

While this new Dynasty Warriors movie readies itself for streaming, the video game side of the franchise has been comparatively energetic over the last few months. The Legend of Zelda-themed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity released last year and has a roadmap of additional content in the works, while another action-focused spin-off Samurai Warriors 5 is set to arrive in just over a month’s time. Additionally, the strategy-focused Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires was announced back in September and is currently awaiting a solid release date.
