Jeffrey Dean Morgan Responds to Flashpoint Movie Announcement

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

When Warner Bros. announced that Ezra Miller’s standalone The Flash movie would officially be titled ‘Flashpoint’, it obliterated many of the preconceived notions fans had for the film.  Instead of going for a cookie-cutter approach with Ezra Miller’s second big screen appearance as The Flash, DC Comics is instead opting to shake up the entire DC Extended Universe – and as a result, potentially provide Jeffrey Dean Morgan with a way to reprise his role as Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father.

As many of you reading this already know, the Flashpoint storyline begins when Barry Allen goes back in time to prevent his nemesis – the Reverse-Flash – from killing his mother, effectively creating an alternate reality that sends ripples throughout the entire DC universe.  One such ripple drastically changes Batman’s origin story; instead of Bruce Wayne losing his parents, Bruce is killed, with the outcome being that his father, Thomas Wayne, takes up the mantle of the caped crusader.  Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opened up with the typical Batman origin story, with Bruce Wayne’s parents – Thomas and Martha Wayne – played by actors Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan (both of whom are known for their roles on The Walking Dead).

Now that the Flashpoint timeline is officially being explored in The Flash’s solo outing, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has sent out a Tweet expressing his interest in returning to reprise his role as Thomas Wayne, albeit with a heavier focus on… you guessed it… justice.  In the above tweet, we see the actors that played Bruce Wayne’s parents next to each other at Comic-Con, with the caption reading: “Did you say… #flashpoint @LaurenCohan”.

Both actors could potentially return thanks to the alternate reality Flashpoint creates, as Martha Wayne, having survived in the alternate reality, becomes the Joker due to the fallout from her son’s murder.  Jeffrey Dean Morgan also shared new fan artwork, portraying he and Lauren Cohan as Bruce Wayne’s parents in the Flashpoint timeline, which can be seen below:

This isn’t the first time Jeffrey Dean Morgan has expressed interest in playing Batman.  In an interview with Cinema Blend last year, the actor revealed that he was hoping director Zack Snyder had Flashpoint in mind when casting him as Thomas Wayne.  “Maybe when he cast me that was kind of the goal,” he said.  “Hopefully DC can figure this all out, and in a few years I can come back to do a Flashpoint Batman!  I would love that.  That would be great.”  It would certainly be an exciting direction for the DCEU to go in, if even just for The Flash’s solo film.
