Half-Life: Alyx First Gameplay Trailer Revealed (VIDEO)

Half-Life: Alyx First Gameplay Trailer Revealed (VIDEO)

Half-Life: Alyx is by no means the game we wanted, but we’ll certainly take that over nothing at all. Officially confirmed by Valve earlier this week, the Steam company surprised its fan base by not only moving away from franchise protagonist Goron Freeman, but by also revealing that Half-Life: Alyx was built from the ground up to be a VR title.

The folks over at Valve have released the very first gameplay trailer for Half-Life: Alyx, and honestly? It looks really, really good. The movements seem perfectly natural, from picking up a gun off the hood of a car to rummaging around on a shelf looking for handgun ammo before manually reloading and firing at a Combine soldier. Check out the epic gameplay trailer below:

In addition to the gameplay trailer, we also have some juicy tidbits about where the game fits into the rest of the series. Half-Life: Alyx is set in between the first and second games in the series, so, don’t expect Gordon to come swooping in with his crowbar to save the day. Here’s what to expect from the game courtesy of its official Steam page:

“Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series. It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance. As founders of a fledgling resistance, you’ve continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research, and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine. Every day, you learn more about your enemy, and every day you work toward finding a weakness.”

The game will also offer special incentives for those that have purchased Valve Index hardware by the end of this year. Those that own Valve Index will get Half-Life: Alyx for free, along with the following goodies:

  • Explore environments from Half-Life: Alyx in your SteamVR Home space
  • Alternate gun skins to embellish Alyx’s arsenal
  • Special Half-Life: Alyx-themed content for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2

Half-Life: Alyx will launch in March 2020.
