Destiny 2’s New ‘Stasis’ Damage Type Is “A Big Deal,” Says Bungie
Excitement for Destiny 2 is at an all-time high today thanks to the recently revealed new expansion, Beyond Light. Revealed by Bungie during today’s Destiny 2 stream, the expansion is slated to release later this year on current-gen consoles, though intergenerational cross-play has been confirmed for next-gen consoles as well. In the meantime, we’ve plenty to look forward to, including a brand new damage type that is being touted as “a big deal” by Bungie’s Mark Noseworthy.
During the Destiny 2: Beyond Light reveal stream, the new Stasis damage type was officially announced. This damage type will allow players to wield Stasis weapons against enemies and, to an extent, manipulate time. “The other thing is Stasis, this new power, isn’t just gonna be Guardian’s supers and abilities,” revealed game director Luke Smith. “It’s a brand new damage type.”
So that means it’s gonna ultimately sit alongside Solar, Arc, and Void as the first new element we’ve introduced to the game since the original Destiny release way back in 2014.”
Continuing on, Destiny 2’s general manager Mark Noseworthy admitted that the addition of the Stasis damage type will be rather impactful moving forward. “This is a big deal,” Noseworthy said. “It’s a big deal to add this to the universe. It changes every.” Luke Smith laughed at this, admitting that it was also “a lot of work.”
While the reveal stream glossed over the new damage type, chances are we’ll get a much better demonstration of its power prior to the official launch of Beyond Light this September 22nd. Destiny 2 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
