Destiny 2 End Credits Scene Explained – Spoilers Ahead (VIDEO)

Destiny 2 end credits

Many players would agree that Destiny 2 was able to deliver on the promise they made to make the franchise more cinematic for the game’s story. No longer is the tale told through Grimoire Cards but through interesting dialog and dynamic cutscenes. While sometimes very cheesy and over the top, the game provides some well done conversations, bringing the game’s lore to the players directly. One thing about the campaign is *that* ending seen. The Destiny 2 end credits that promises pure epicness in the future.

Once the credits finished rolling, the player is treated with one last cutscene before beginning the rest of the game. Ghaul has taken the light for himself and becomes an immortal being of fire and smoke. As he threatens the Traveler and the Guardians with his new found power,  the Traveler destroys him with an explosion of light energy. This is the official end of the game which leads into the final cutscene which can be seen below:

Destiny 2’s end-credits scene sees the energy from the Traveler expand across our solar system and even into the dark places of our galaxy. For those who haven’t played the first Destiny, the Darkness is explained as the polar opposite of the Light; the Traveler. After sacrificing itself for Earth to protect it from the Darkness, it seemed as though players would never see the Darkness, however it seems that the threat was always there and may come again … and soon.

The pyramid ships were something seen in concept art for the game such as the image below. They were later scrapped for the game but were long theorized by players to have been the manifestation of the Darkness. Developers mentioned before that the Darkness would not appear in Destiny 2 which begs the question, just what are the pyramid ships?

A mood board presented at GDC in 2013 shows five different races, four of which players are already familiar with. Players have defended themselves from the Fallen, lived through the terrors of the Hive, explored the mysteries of the Vex, and waged war with the Cabal. What threat do the pyramid ships hold? The fifth race shares similarities with what many fans could interpret as Darkness, such as the misty black smoke and the unique vessels. While the designs were used, they may not be the same enemy. For now, players will need to wait and see what comes of this new, and much larger, threat to Earth.

Destiny 2 is available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with a release for PC arriving on October 24th. What did you think of the Destiny 2 end credits scene?
