Bayonetta Studio Teases a New IP and New Director – More Details From Platinum Games

Platinum Games

For the last ten years Platinum Games has crafted many successful titles ranging from Vanquish, Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, and more gathering a very passionate fanbase over time. Now the studio is beginning work on a new IP, however the title is still in its very early stages. It was teased during a keynote speech at BitSummit by Platinum Games producer Atsushi Inaba.

Unfortunately, Inaba could not disclose anything about the game only stating that it was a “shapeless, formless IP”. He did also mention that the mystery game would be helmed by a new director who had not led development on a game for the studio before, though he didn’t give a name for the mystery person. At last years BitSummit, Platinum Games had mentioned that they wanted to do make a new original IP and now with the latest announcement, it seems the studio will be moving forward with that plan.

Inaba also mentioned the possibility that the studio might not be able to keep up with releasing one title per year. A feat which Platinum Games has been able to keep up with since 2012. Back in 2016, Tatsuya Minami stated he and the studio only wanted to only work on original IP’s but that sadly didn’t work out. The studio is known for its development partnerships on multiple occasions working with Nintendo, Konami, Activision/Nickelodeon, Hasbro, and more.

We used to have the idea that we wanted to be a studio that only made 100 percent original games. However, it turns out that only doing that is considerably difficult, and so now we take on various work.

What could this new IP possibly look like? With Platinum Games having a strong foundation in character action games, it’d be no surprise if the game was something similar in style to Nier: Automata or Bayonetta. Maybe it will be a title like Vanquish. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
