Anthem Javelins Have Class-Specific Gear, Can’t Merge Voltron-Style
BioWare is looking to take their story-focused RPG expertise to uncharted worlds in the upcoming title Anthem, with the introduction of an epic-scoped IP with feature-full aspects of multiplayer integration. A deviation from the well-known single player series’ Dragon Age and Mass Effect, Anthem has left many fans wondering about the game’s more specific elements and Executive Producer Mark Darrah has answered several of these near-endless queries via Twitter.
Many of the questions revolved around how the BioWare new title will approach its combat, specifically how gear will affect the super-capable Javelin exosuits. Regarding these upgrades, Darrah revealed that each class will utilize their own specific gear, with player modding including the ability to alter a mech’s elemental powerset.

Gear was additionally confirmed to feature across multiple loadouts, removing the arduous task of earning several copies of the same equipment. Those who find themselves plagued with too many weapons have the option of going the Mass Effect route of refining them into raw materials and turning it into something else.

Darrah also recently took the opportunity to clarify a few fan ideas about Anthem, which included confirming the difference between “Lancers” and “Freelancers,” and whether or not Javelins could merge to form a larger bot in the vein of Voltron or Transformers. The former was answered by clarifying Freelancers were a subset of Lancers, while the latter was addressed with a simple “no.” Darn.
Lancer is the broader term. Freelancer is a subset https://t.co/AX3h9wYCJB
